Michele Fanning, NCIDQ
As a young girl, Michele would visit her mother at work at an interior design firm in Del Mar, California. It was there, amid the piles of colorful textiles samples, that she developed her passion for design and realized she would follow in her mother’s footsteps.
She earned an Interior Design degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, then moved to San Francisco to work for a European firm that specialized in German and Italian kitchens and baths. Working for the Europe-based firm opened her eyes to the international world of design. She traveled around the world and designed high-end homes for diverse personalities. The experience gave her a deep appreciation of global cultures and design styles.
In 1991, Michele established Design Collaborative and moved to the beautiful central coast of California, where she has become a respected leader in her field.
Her designs have been featured in European Homes and Gardens Magazine, Sunset Magazine, and Food and Wine Magazine, to name a few. She was also a featured designer in the book Living with Arts and Crafts by Ros Byam Shaw. She has earned International Design Competition awards and won a First Place honor from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
Michele has also consulted for major brands, traveling to Pebble Beach, California, to critique Kohler’s latest plumbing product line, and to Greenwood, Mississippi, with Ehron to discuss future product lines with Viking Range Corporation.
Michele keeps current on product trends by attending trade shows all over the world: Heimtex Frankfurt, MoOD Belgium, Hospitality Design, National Home Builders Show and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, and many more. As a licensed member of the National Council for Interior Design and the Interior Design Coalition of California, she stays connected with the design community and its vast network of industry insiders.
In her free time, she loves to hike with her two labrador retrievers and enjoys attending Cal Poly baseball games to support her husband’s coaching career.
